The house still stands, the prairie overgrown and quiet around it. My grandmother grew up there. Raised by the land, a sister, and her father. Now my mother walks the land, with only a southwest wind beside her. Trying to imagine the generation before, how they stitched together this place. Built it, endured it, emerged from it.
