ANCHOR.

“i can’t move”
the southwest wind bellows its anger
against the side of the house
i cracked the window
to hear her scream
the cottonwood leaves spin
and sputter
the sun flints and flickers
off each one
i don’t look away

”i can’t move”
they call my name
i should go
a stack of to do lists undone
a bucket list unchecked
a dog eared poetry book with pages unread
two unanswered texts
groceries to purchase, meals to prep
all these things to keep on the wagon

”i can’t move”
but my feet dangle off the edge
each bump inches closer
to sliding past the boundary
plunging into the depths
drown in the unbalance
of my mind
swimming in darkness
waiting to sink
i can’t move
